Big news this week that’s gonna have the blogosphere blowin’ up! That’s right…recently I redesigned my good friend Josh Preston’s blog, Slightly Overdressed. So be sure to peep that…oh, and I guess you might want to read a few of the posts too.
Also, I should prolly mention that a couple lovely lady friends of mine from the big city have just launched a brand new DIY webzine called The NYC Magnet that’s worth a glance or two. Who knows, you might even recognize the mention of a certain designer from upstate.
Now don’t get me wrong, I like Feist, and last year I was all about her and her iPod-made-fame. Hell, if this site had been live last winter I probably would have blogged all about her. However, I doubt I’m alone in thinking her stuff has since been a bit overplayed. Anyway, all that to say I think we’ve found a suitable replacement for Apple to ruin.
Just as I was beginning to feel like all I’ve been listening to lately is electro (whose shelf-life I’ve heard is diminishing quickly, lol) I stumbled across Lykke Li, or Fiest 2 as I like to call her. I don’t know, I’m diggin’ it, but who cares what I think…decide for yourself.

I realize I haven’t posted very much music lately (or really anything for that matter), and for that I am deeply sorry. But I think this track will make up for the lack of communication. I stumbled across this track/artist over at The Sixty One and have been diggin’ it non-stop ever since. It’s so rare that an entire DJ set is solid from start to finish, but here we have a winner (despite the Justice…God, when are people going to get over them). Enjoy…
Erotto - The Double Edge

In an attempt to make my newish apartment more inspiring and less like a prison I’ve been on this kick of ordering all those “someday” prints from artists I’ve had bookmarked for so long but was always too broke to ever afford. Here are a couple of the latest. One issue that I’ve been having however is flattening the prints. My Biggie Was Right print flattened out almost imediatly because it was printed on a lighter paper, but Skull Forest and Army Print are both being difficult.
Trust me, I’ve let these babies sit under heavy books for days with no luck. And yes, I’ve also tried the whole rolling it backwards thing that everyone on the internets say works so well, but that just seemed to warp the hell out of it. So, If anyone has a method of flattening prints that really works, I’d be forever in your debt. I’m considering the iron method, though the idea of putting a burning hot piece of metal anywhere near these prints has me a lil’ concerned.
I got to see Matt & Kim perform this past week at The Bug Jar and let me tell you, it was just swell! The duet had the small venue packed and dancing the entire set. By the last song half the audience (myself included) was jammed on the stage dancing around with the band. Needless to say, it was an enjoyable evening.

So I’ve been pretty much settled into my new apartment for going on about a month now, but as I mentioned before, there has been something lacking.
As you may have noticed from some of the pictures I posted before, my walls we’re pretty barren, but not anymore! That’s right, now adorning the walls of my living room is a sweet screen print by an awesome group of artists I stumbled across on you work for them. So I’ve been getting settled into my new place. It’s still a work-in-progress, but I’m happy with how it’s been turning out. I spent the last few weeks garage sale and craigslist hunting and made out sweet with some vintage furniture (including a set of fully restored 1950s barcelona style chairs seen above - pretty bad ass). I still need to get some more stuff on the walls, but furniture seemed to take priority.

Some people visiting Weefolio lately might be surprised to find it missing…but fear not, this is only temporary while I add some new features and do some serious redesigning. I don’t want to give to much away, but Weefolio 2.0 is going to be a huge revision of the app’s entire concept.
Now, for all you current Weefolio members…I’m not gonna leave you hangin’. You can still login and use your account as usual. Currently I’m only restricting new user sign up.
Update - I decided to reopen new user registration on Weefolio while I work on 2.0.
I’m happy (also quite relieved) to say that my senior show is over and that it actually didn’t suck! We had a great turn out for the opening reception…dare I say more than prior years? All I know is that it’s been fun, but I’m glad it’s behind me. During the final week of preparation while we were hanging the show it just seemed like everything that could go wrong did. Messed up vinyl orders, lighting, last minute painting, and no internet access (relevant to me piece) to name a few. Needless to say, I won’t miss the stress. Now it’s time to just sit back and relax ’til I strut the stage. Watch out world, here I come!

About a week ago I visited one of my favorite local venues to see a VHS or Beta show. Now, apparently there was some confusion with the band’s promoter and their equipment never showed. This initially came a quite the let down for me as well as a number of other fans, but not wanting to disappoint, the band’s lead singer and guitarist decided to play a shorter acoustic set.
On the one hand this was a bit disappointing, seeing as so much of VHS or Beta’s music is so dependent on electronic beats and effects, but it was also quite a rarity. According to the band, this was their first solely acoustic set and they were “making it up” as they went along. I do have to admit, I was impressed as the duo played “Alive” by request, a song I could hardly have imagined without a driving bass beat.
While the VHS or Beta performance may have left a few with mixed feelings, I have to say my favorite part of the evening may have been their opening act, Tigercity. Hailing from the hipster Mecca that is Brooklyn, these guys were the funkiest white boys I’ve ever seen. I’d never heard of these guys before the show, but I have to say since I haven’t been able to hear enough. Think 80’s synth meets Michael Jackson (when he was good) but better. These guys were funk-tastic…enjoy!
